You DO realize that this is your award too, don't you? We did this together. All of it. From the day our doors finally opened, to this very moment, it's you who makes waking up at 2am worth it. It's you who makes us want to be better, each and every day, in each and every way. It's you who gives us amazing feedback on cupcake flavors. It's you who are the best of Baltimore.

New Faces, New Workshops, New Specials, New Flavors

WOW! Has summer hit Baltimore, or WHAT? First, we hope everyone, their family, friends, and their pets celebrated an enjoyed an amazing Fourth of July - or, as we like to call it here: Fourth of JulPIE. We've been having such a blast celebrating with you, and hosting/teaching workshops at our Cake Socials, that we've realized (and were kindly reminded) that we NEED to.. no no.. HAVE to offer workshops more often, and whenever possible, on weekends. We're grateful for your feedback, we read every email, and every facebook message, and we wanted to take this time to say that we're adding finishing touches to a list of new family friendly socials & workshops with new dates (as early as late summer early fall) that we'll be offering in addition to brand new Golden Tickets. YES! We're talking cupcakes, piping & decorating, rosettes, custom cake jars, and dare I say...  a peek at some secret recipes? OOHHHH BUDDY... Lots of news coming your way.

And speaking of new.. you've probably noticed some new faces and new smiles at the shop. We can't wait to introduce you to new team members who will be added to our team page right here on our website, and introduced on our Facebook & Instagram pages — and of course, in person.

NEW menu items are coming your way. New cupcake flavors. New team members. New workshops. New Golden Ticket opportunities. New specials. And it's all for new.. I mean YOU.

Cake by Jason Brings New Dessert Experience to Timonium | Baltimore Magazine

Baker Jason Hisley moves on from La Cakerie to start a fresh venture.

Though Jason Hisley has been baking confections since he was 5 years old, this spring marked the first time he has truly found his sweet spot.

After adventures in TV and owning few shops around town, Hisley has opened Cake by Jason Hisley in Timonium—offering both tall-tiered cakes and grab-and-go pastries—to get back to his small-batch roots. 

“We want to position ourselves as the place you can come and get high-end, insanely boutique cakes, like with rockets coming out of the top or pouring into a teacup,” Hisley explains. “Or you could come and just get a dollar coffee and hang out in the lobby. The most challenging thing is being able to balance those two worlds.”

Combining a modern vision with traditional family-friendly values proved to be easy, too. Hisley himself comes from a family of foodies, he said, and if kids want to come in and smash donuts on the floor, he wants them to do just that. 

“As a kid, I just remember always working with [my grandmother] and my aunt, being 5 or 6 up on a table mixing these big bowls of bread dough,” Hisley said. “I just thought it was the most fascinating, coolest thing ever. A combination of a science experiment and food.”

They're here! Gold Status classes from Executive Chef Jason Hisley are being introduced to our incredible community. We're talking full immersion, world renowned courses & workshops designed specifically for you, where our students receive one-on-one tutelage from the mohawked master of sweets himself.

Secret recipes will be shared, baked, and designed in a world-class environment, while taking advantage of the equipment, tools, and fresh ingredients we'll have prepared for you.

We've noticed too many of the courses that were made available to our community were nothing more than generic out of the box instructions being read by someone who was more passionate about filling seats and making sales than actually teaching, coaching, helping and sharing their skills. That all ends today.

We've introduced GOLD STATUS CLASSES as part of our Workshops lineup. You don't need to buy tools or ingredients to bring with you. You don't need to be a pro. You don't need to feel like you can't do it ever again. We're making a commitment to you, our friends and neighbors, to share what has made us so incredibly happy directly with you. Baking with friends - old and new. Having a great time, and learning from a someone a nation has come to recognize as a champion, and whose community has come to recognize as their neighbor.

We're keeping classes small to make sure everyone feels welcomed, and receives the standard of education and experience expected from Chef Jason, Kelly, and every single one of Cake's amazing team members who have learned your name and go-to order, and make sure a fresh brewed cup of coffee is ready for you before you get to the counter.

We're thrilled to share our happiness with you, and we can't wait to see you in class!

So you probably noticed seats and tickets to our first three workshops are are flying off the shelves (that makes sense, right? Shelves?). We've noticed the same thing, and anticipated this fantastic response from our community. That's why we're proud to tell you ALL that more workshops are being designed JUST FOR YOU, and some... JUST BY YOU. We're working on buttoning up a few more details and will make the announcement the second our website is updated to showcase the options we've got baking for you. Please remember not to wait until the last second.

REMINDER: We keep our tickets/seats limited so that everyone can enjoy the one-on-one attention they deserve, and to allow plenty of elbow room for when we want to get a little messy. Tickets go FAST.

A very GRAND OPENING
Welcome to Cake

APRIL 2018

And then, we were open for business. April 28, 2018, at 7am, we opened the doors to the public, to our community, our neighbors, family, and friends—for the very first time. We welcomed the very people we look forward to serving each and every single day our shop is open (which is Monday—Saturday, 7am—7pm). To say the wait, the stress, the highs and lows during the process were simply "worth it" would be an understatement. We, as a team, grew closer. We grew wiser. Our recipes became more refined. Our designs more intricate. We learned details about trades we never imagined we'd be a part of when the idea of Cake™ was born. We came together to share this celebration of sweets and friendship more grateful than we dreamed possible.

Our Grand Opening welcomed families from NY, PA, VA, DC, DE, and of course, from all over Maryland. We met our neighbors, and their children. We met bloggers, babies, at home parents, teachers, brides and grooms to be. We shared sweets with men and women in uniform, and with entrepreneurs and young professionals who couldn't wait to be the first to try and share our brand new menu, our delicious coffee, our lightening fast wifi, and fresh-baked homemade breakfast pastries.

We had the opportunity to share a brand new memory with YOU — Our friends, our family, our very reason for Cake.

Thank you, from the bottom of our collective heart, for being a part of this story from the very beginning. Thank you, for making life sweet, and choosing to celebrate coming chapters with Cake.

You’ve waited patiently and the time is finally here!  Cake By Jason is thrilled to announce our GRAND OPENING on Saturday, April 28th! Doors will open at 7:00am but the fun starts at 10:00am! Prizes, raffles and more, including giveaways for our first customers after 10! Ovens are on...frosting is whipped... CAKE is ready for you...are you ready for CAKE?!

A grand opening date for Jason Hisley’s new Baltimore County bakeshop is slated for April. Back in October, the former La Cakerie owner and executive chef announced that he would be parting ways with his business partners to start a bakery of his own. “My vision for La Cakerie was to introduce a small, cozy shop where our community could enter in one mood, and leave happier when they entered,” Hisley wrote on Facebook. “As the brand became more recognized by a national audience, it became less recognizable as the vision I had when the journey began.” Though the Timonium shop, Cake by Jason Hisley, will have a new look and feel (fresh signage is already hung at the store in the Padonia Village Shopping Center), its menu will feature the chef’s classic cupcakes, donuts, pastries, coffee, and custom cakes. FEBRUARY 2018

After six years at the helm of La Cakerie on Allegheny Avenue, executive chef Jason Hisley announced in October he would step down to pursue a new venture in Timonium.

Plans for his new shop — called Cake by Jason Hisley — have been kept under wraps since then, but the patisserie and cake shop officially has a new home at 47 E. Padonia Road in Timonium.

Jason Hisley leaves La Cakerie to launch a new bakery

OCTOBER 2017

 Cakerie owner Jason Hisley, known for winning Food Network baking competitions, is parting ways with the brand to launch a new boutique bakery.

Cake by Jason Hisley is expected to open in early 2018 in Timonium. Hisley said he hopes Cake becomes a high-end cake shop that will also host classes; provide catering; and sell coffee, cupcakes and other baked goods for customers.

October 2017

It’s official. As of today, I am NO LONGER the owner of La Cakerie. After 6 incredible years of baking a mini empire, and meeting our amazing community, I've made the very difficult decision to part ways with my current business partners to launch a brand new DREAM. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, introducing "CAKE™ by Jason Hisley.” You like that? Cake… short and sweet (pun very much intended).

My vision for La Cakerie was to introduce a small, cozy, comfortable shop where our community could enter in one mood, and leave happier than when they arrived. A shop that put building relationships on the same tier as using the highest quality ingredients in every element that we shared. 

As the brand became more recognized by a national audience, it became less recognizable as the vision I had of a small Baltimore shop when our journey began.

 

With CAKE™ launching in 2018 (Spring 2018), my team and I believe, that with your help, that small, cozy, comfortable bake shop, serving anyone that wants or needs to sweeten their life that day, will earn your love, your friendship, and your continued support. We are building on one promise: keep it simple. Focus on quality and experience. Invite our community to be a part of our journey moving forward.

I can’t wait to introduce you to the team, the menu, and our space. As the launch date grows closer, we will continue to update you to make sure you’re in the loop. And you KNOW it can’t be a Jason Hisley brand without an over-the-top Grand Opening Extravaganza, RIGHT? 

My immediate goal, after working 7 days a week, almost every week, for 6 years straight... is to rest easy, enjoy unemployment for the next few weeks, and plan a party that will knock your socks off.
